5 Tips to Healthy Lymph

Movement:

Your lymph depends on movement to work on its best. Movement can be anything from walking, to jumping or even yoga. Yoga is ideal for happy lymph as it combines both movement and breath.

Goal: Aim for 3 x 20 minute sessions of walking, jumping or yoga this week and witness the movement of toxins from your system. Don’t forget to breathe.

Drink more fluids:

Water is vital to life! Seeing as lymph         surrounds every cell in your body it is extremely important to ensure that each cell and your lymph are adequately hydrated!

Goal :

  • Start your morning with a lymph booster: – 1 pint of warm water with juice of half a lemon.
  • Consume at least 2 litres of water  daily (including herbal teas)
  • Herbal teas to support lymph health include: Ginger, dandelion, peppermint & our detox tea.

Include immune boosters in your diet:

Garlic – Garlic boosts immune function and combats harmful microbes. It improves circulation and aids in the cleansing of toxins.

Ginger – Ginger has beneficial effects on digestion and circulation, two systems that are tied directly to the lymphatic system.

Turmeric – Turmeric is related to ginger. It helps reduce inflammation, thins blood, and improves circulation.

Goal: Include garlic daily this week, try the hummous recipe.

Essential Fats:

Your body requires fats to make fats.  Fats are not only important for your healthy lymph but also for the health of your brain, your hormones and even your cholesterol. It is the type of fat that you consume that matters.

Goal:  Introduce/increase the following healthy fats in your diet:

  • 1 tbs of organic nuts daily e.g. almonds, walnuts, pecans, brazil.
  • 1 tbs of organic seeds daily e.g. pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, chia.
  • Avocadoes, coconut, coconut oil, olive oil.

Breathe:

Don’t rely on foods    alone. Keep your lymphatic system healthy by breathing deeply. Breathing exercises create movement which moves lymph fluid more efficiently while resupplying oxygen and boosting circulation.

Goal: abdominal breathing 5 minutes daily

How to Body Brush:

  • Dry brush before you shower, while the water is heating up.
  • Starting at the soles of your feet brush your skin towards your heart paying special attention to joints where lymphatic fluid can collect.
  • Brush up your legs giving special attention to your inner thighs. Be careful not to brush too aggressively. You don’t need to brush so hard that you damage the skin.
  • On your stomach brush in a clockwise motion.
  • Brush from your hands towards your heart, give a few extra brush strokes to your armpits where there are a lot of lymph nodes.
  • Along your chest and back continue to brush towards you heart.
  • You should now feel more awake and alert and feel the blood pumping through every part of your body. Hop in that shower and enjoy your day
